Yes: No further action required, refer the customer to Jaguar Land Rover owner information for gesture control. Demonstrating the correct motion and location for gesture control.
No: GO to L6.
- With the tailgate in the fully closed position, perform the gesture motion and observe the operation of the tailgate (opening and closing). Repeat for both hands-free tailgate sensors.
- L6: HANDS-FREE TAILGATE DOES NOT OPEN/CLOSE NOTE: A valid smart key must be within a 1.2 m radius of the tailgate.
- Make sure that the key is present within the antenna range.
Is a valid key present within the range and does the tailgate operate with gesture control?
Yes: GO to L7.
No: Repeat the test with an alternative key.

Yes: Rectify any installation/damage as necessary, re-fit the bumper and retest the system.
No: GO to L9.

- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check between the affected hands-free tailgate module and any splice joints for ground, power and Local Interconnect Network (LIN) circuits.
Were any obvious issues found with any of the splice joints?
Yes: Repair the wiring harness as necessary and retest the system.
No: Install a new hands-free tailgate module(s) as necessary.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check between the affected hands-free tailgate module and any splice joints for ground, power and Local Interconnect Network (LIN) circuits.
- L10: HANDS-FREE TAILGATE DOES NOT OPEN/CLOSE
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the hands-free tailgate module(s) ground and power circuits for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance.
Were any faults found with the electrical circuit?
Yes: Repair the wiring harness as necessary and retest the system.
No: GO to L11.
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the hands-free tailgate module(s) ground and power circuits for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance.
- L11: HANDS-FREE TAILGATE DOES NOT OPEN/CLOSE
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the LIN
circuit from the splice joint to the RFA
for short to ground, open circuit, high resistance.
Were any faults found with the LIN circuit?
Yes: Repair the wiring harness as necessary and retest the system.
No: Refer to the relevant service information and install a new remote function actuator Refer to: REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR .

circuit from the splice joint to the RFA
for short to ground, open circuit, high resistance.
