Steering Column MULTIFUNCTION Switch (G2319835): Removal
WARNING:
- To prevent accidental deployment, you must power down the Restraints Control Module (RCM). Wait at least 2 minutes after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable before you do any work on the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS). If you do not follow these instructions, it can cause injury or death.
- Do not connect any electrical test device or equipment to the SRS connectors.
- Always wear safety glasses when working on an airbag equipped vehicle and when handling an airbag. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
- Make sure that the road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
- Use a suitable trim tool.
NOTE:
- The clockspring is an integral component of the steering column multifunction switch, if any malfunction is present with the clockspring the whole assembly must be replaced.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations for left hand drive vehicles, right hand drive vehicles are similar.

NOTE: Note the original position of the steering column.
Lower the steering column.
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT .
- To avoid accidental airbag deployment, wait at least 2 minutes after you disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
- Remove the steering wheel.
Refer to: STEERING WHEEL .
Check the sliding lock.
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Remove the steering column lower cover.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 4 clips.
- Remove the steering column upper cover.
- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the multifunction switch and clockspring assembly.
