Daytime Running Lamps (G2300148): Operation
Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) operate when the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) receives an engine running signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and:
- Park 'P' is not selected on the Transmission Control Switch (TCS).
- The lighting control switch is in the OFF or 'Auto' lamps position.
NOTE:
- If the lighting control switch is moved to the side lamp or headlamp positions, Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) are deactivated. Normal side lamp and headlamp functionality is operational.
- When the DRLs are active, the headlamp flash function using the left steering column multifunction switch will operate normally. The high beam headlamp function using the left steering column multifunction switch will be deactivated.
When the Electric Park Brake (EPB) operates or the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is in the park 'P' position (automatic transmission vehicles), DRLs are turned off. This is to reduce startup battery discharge during long periods of engine idling in cold climate conditions. When the EPB is released or the TCS is moved from the park 'P' position, normal DRL functionality is restored.
