Fuel Tank - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol - PHEV (G2173094): Removal

WARNING:
  • This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  • The spilling of fuel is unavoidable during this operation. Make sure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent fire and explosion.
  • Do not carry or operate mobile phones or electronic cigarettes when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  • Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable vapors are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  • If fuel contacts the eyes, flush the eyes with cold water or eyewash solution and seek immediate medical attention.
  • After completing the repairs, the fuel system must be checked visually for leaks. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after fuel handling, as prolonged contact may cause irritation. Should irritation develop, seek medical attention.
CAUTION: Make sure the workshop area in which the vehicle is being worked on is as clean and as dust free as possible. Foreign matter from work on clutches, brakes or from machining or welding operations can contaminate the fuel system and may result in later malfunction.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Always follow the Petrol and Petrol-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions, when completing any repairs to the fuel system.

    Refer to: PETROL AND PETROL-ETHANOL FUEL SYSTEMS HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

  2. Depressurize the fuel system.

    Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL .

  3. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING .

  4. NOTE: Repeat the procedure for the other side.

    Remove the rear rocker panel moulding.

    Refer to: REAR ROCKER PANEL MOULDING - [+] STANDARD WHEELBASE .

  5. NOTE: Illustration shows right side, left side similar.

    Remove the left side and the right side undershields.

  6. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL - PHEV .

    Remove the 8 bolts and the fuel tank heatshield.

    Remove the 6 bolts and the onboard control module cover.

  9. Drain the fuel system.

    Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING .

    Release the fuel filler neck from the fuel tank.

  11. NOTE: With assistance remove the component.

    • Reposition the fuel filler neck away from the fuel tank.
    • Remove the 6 retaining bolts.
    • Using a suitable stand remove the fuel tank.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

  12. Make sure the fuel tank is fully supported and secured on a suitable work bench.
