The turbocharger increases the temperature and pressure of the intake air. The electric supercharger also increases the pressure of the intake air, which increases the power output of the engine. The compression process produces heat which reduces the performance gains due to reduced density of the intake air.
In addition, the hot intake air causes a temperature increase in the cylinder combustion. To counteract this, the charge air cooler is used to reduce the intake air temperature. This increases the density of the intake air, which allows more intake air to the combustion chamber.
