Transfer Case Partial Draining And Filling - INGENIUM I6 3.0L Diesel (G2798206): Draining

WARNING: Observe due care when draining, as the fluid can be very hot.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  2. NOTE: If equipped.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) mass damper.
  3. CAUTION:
    • Do not allow the Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) to hang from the wiring harness. Always support the TCCM  with suitable cable ties.
    • Note the orientation of the ground cable prior to removal

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.
    • Reposition the TCCM  and the ground cable away from the transfer case.

      General Equipment: Cable ties 

  4. Place a suitable container under the transfer case.
  5. CAUTION: Make sure that the area around the transfer case fill plug is clean and free of foreign material.

    • Remove and discard the transfer case fill plug.
  6. CAUTION: Make sure that the area around the transfer case drain plug is clean and free of foreign material.

    • Remove and discard the transfer case drain plug.
    • Allow the fluid to drain.
