Transmission jack

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
Fluid loss is unavoidable, use absorbent cloth or a container to collect the fluid.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING
Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Remove the hood.
Refer to: HOOD
Remove the secondary bulkhead center panel.
Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - V8 S/C 5.0L PETROL
Remove the viscous cooling fan.
Refer to: VISCOUS COOLING FAN

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 engine lifting brackets.

- Install the 2 engine lifting eyes.
  Special Tool(s): 303-1435
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque
  
  Stage 1: 25 Nm
  
  Stage 2: 90°

- Install the 2 special tools.
  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1713
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
  Torque : 20 Nm

- Install the 2 engine compartment braces as illustrated.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque : 20 Nm

Assemble the engine support beam and the adapter.

Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692 , JLR-303-1692-04
CAUTION: This step requires the aid of another technician.

- Install the engine support beam and the engine support adapter as illustrated.
  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692
- Use the special tools to attach the engine lifting eyes to the engine support beam.
  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692-04

Release the 3 breather pipes.
Remove the rear driveshaft.
Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT
Remove the front driveshaft.
Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

- Remove the bolt.
- Disconnect the 2 transmission fluid cooler pipes.
- Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
- Tie aside the transmission fluid cooler pipes.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Release the 2 Emergency Park Release (EPR) cable clips.
- Tie aside the EPR cable.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the heatshield.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the left Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
- Release the clip.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the heatshield.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the right HO2S .
- Release the clip.

- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the 3 clips.
- Remove the ground cable bolt.

Remove the access cover.

Remove and discard the 4 drive plate bolts.

Use the transmission jack to lower the powertrain assembly.

- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Release the differential breather pipe.
- Tie aside the differential breather pipe.

- Release the clip.
- Release the starter motor breather pipe.
- Tie aside the starter motor breather pipe.

Remove the breather pipe assembly bolt.

- Release the clip.
- Remove the breather pipe assembly.
NOTE: Note the orientation of the bolts prior to removal.

Remove the 10 bolts.
WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

CAUTION: Care must be taken to avoid damaging the surrounding components.
NOTE:
- Note the orientation of the bolts prior to removal.
- Secure the torque converter to the transmission using suitable cable ties.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the transmission.
NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

- Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.
- Release the 7 clips.
- Remove the transmission wiring harness.

- Remove the wiring harness bracket.
- Remove the transfer case.
