General Equipment

EQUIPMENT NAME
Transmission jack
WARNING:
  • It is the responsibility of the Electric Vehicle Authorised Person (EVAP) to make sure they comply with any local legislation for work on High Voltage (HV).
  • The approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn where indicated within this procedure and not removed unless indicated within a step. All items of PPE  must be checked for signs of damage before each use, if damaged, replacement PPE  must be obtained before doing this procedure.
  • If the vehicle has been powered down, do not power up the vehicle until all the bonding points have been tested.
CAUTION:
  • New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.
  • Make sure all the HV  connectors, ground points and locating points are clean and free from foreign material before disconnecting and connecting.
  • Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • All Permit To Work (PTW) documents must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.

    This procedure involves work on components associated with the HV  system. Only technicians qualified to EVCP  level or higher are allowed to complete this procedure.

    Refer to: DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

  2. Before handling any HV  connectors the person(s) completing this procedure must refer to the 'High Voltage Electrical Connector Operation and Inspection' document.

    Refer to: GENERAL PROCEDURES .

  3. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  4. CAUTION: JLR EVAP  trained technicians only.

    Power Down the HV  system. Only technicians qualified to EVAP  level or higher are allowed to complete this step of the procedure.

    Refer to: PHEV POWER DOWN/UP - HANDHELD

  5. Remove the hood.

    Refer to: HOOD

  6. Remove the secondary bulkhead center panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL - PHEV/INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL

    Release the breather pipes from the 2 clips.

    Remove the HV  cable bracket nut.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the purge valve.

    • Install the special tool.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1569 

    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    • Install the special tool.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1713 

    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    • Install the 2 engine compartment braces as illustrated.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    Install the engine support beam and the engine support adapter as illustrated.

    Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692  , JLR-303-1692-04 

  14. Remove the catalytic converter.

    Refer to: CATALYTIC CONVERTER

  15. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT

  16. Remove the starter motor.

    Refer to: STARTER MOTOR - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Reposition the ground cable away from the transmission.

    • Disconnect the 4 hoses.
    • Remove the pipe assembly.
  19. Remove the inverter to Crank Integrated Motor Generator (CIMG) 3-Phase High Voltage Cable

    Refer to: INVERTER TO CIMG 3-PHASE HIGH VOLTAGE CABLE

    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
    • Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
    • Release the electrical connector clip.

    Remove the wiring harness bolt.

    • Release the breather pipe.
    • Release the breather pipe clip.

    Release the 4 breather pipe clips.

    Release the 2 breather pipe clips.

    • Remove the wiring harness nut.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.

    • Release the Emergency Park Release (EPR) cable from EPR  lever.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Release the 2 EPR  cable clips.
    • Reposition the EPR  away from the transmission.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the HV  cable support bracket.

    • Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the HV  cable bracket.

    Use a suitable stand to support the transmission.

    General Equipment: Transmission jack 

  30. Remove the front driveshaft.

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

    Lower the transmission.

    • Remove the coolant pipe clip.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.

    Remove the 2 HV  cable nuts.

    Release the breather pipe clip.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
  36. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove the coolant pipe bracket.
    • Release the 2 coolant pipes from the transmission.
    • Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.
  37. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Release the 2 coolant pipes from the transmission.
    • Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

    • Remove the nut.
    • Reposition the solenoid away from the transmission.

    • Remove the 2 nuts.
    • Reposition the breather pipe away from the transmission.
  40. NOTE: Note the orientation of the bolts prior to removal.

    Remove the 4 bolts.

    Remove the 4 bolts.

    Remove the lower transmission bolt.

  43. WARNING:
    • This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Make sure that the transmission is secured with suitable retaining straps.

    Remove the transmission.

  44. NOTE: Only peform the following steps if a new component is to be installed.

    • Release the 2 breather pipe clips.
    • Release the 3 breather pipes.
    • Remove the 3 breather pipes.

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the bracket.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the heatshield.

    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.

    Remove the transmission wiring harness.

    • Use a suitable stand to support the transfer case.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Use the special tool to remove the 8 bolts.

      Special Tool(s): 303-1069

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the catalytic converter to transmission mounting bracket.

    Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

    • Remove the nut.
    • Remove the EPR  lever.

    • Remove the 9 bolts.
    • Remove the adapter plate.
