General Equipment

EQUIPMENT NAME
Transmission jack
CAUTION:
  • New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.
  • Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  2. Disconnect the 12 V system.

    Refer to: 12V SYSTEM DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  3. Remove the hood.

    Refer to: HOOD

  4. Remove the secondary bulkhead panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL/INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL - PHEV/INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL/INGENIUM I6 3.0L PETROL

    Remove the breather pipe bolt.

    Remove the 2 catalytic converter bolts.

    • Remove the 4 catalytic converter to transmission bolts.
    • Remove the bracket.

    • Install the special tool.

      Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1688 

    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    • Install the special tools.

      Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1713 

    • Install and tighten the 4 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    • Install the 2 engine compartment braces as illustrated.
    • Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

      Torque  : 20 Nm

    • Install the engine support beam and the engine support adapter as illustrated.

      Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692-04  , JLR-303-1692

    Use a suitable transmission jack to support the transmission.

    General Equipment: Transmission jack 

  13. Remove the starter motor.

    Refer to: the appropriate service information

  14. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT

  15. Remove the front driveshaft.

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

    • Release the 2 transmission wiring harness clips.
    • Disconnect the transmission to body wiring harness electrical connector.
  17. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Release the transmission fluid cooler pipes.
    • Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

    • Release the Emergency Park Release (EPR) lever from the transmission.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Release the EPR  cable clip.
    • Reposition the EPR  away from the transmission.

    Release the 2 EPR  cable clips.

    Release the transmission breather pipe clip.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Disconnect the solenoid electrical connector.
    • Reposition the solenoid assembly away from the transmission.

    • Remove the 2 nuts.
    • Reposition the breather pipe away from the transmission.
  23. CAUTION: Only rotate the engine clockwise.

    Remove and discard the 4 drive plate bolts.

  24. NOTE: Note the installed position of the bolts prior to removal.

    Remove the 4 left side transmission to engine bolts.

    Remove the 4 right side transmission to engine bolts.

    Remove the 2 lower transmission to engine bolts.

  27. CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.
    NOTE:
    • This step requires the aid of another technician.
    • Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    Remove the transmission.

    • Release the wiring harness clip.
    • Release the 2 breather pipes.
    • Remove the 2 breather pipes.

    • Remove the 4 wiring harness bolts.
    • Disconnect the transmission electrical connector.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the heatshield.

    • Remove the 2 wiring harness bracket bolts.
    • Release the wiring harness clip.
    • Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

    Remove the transmission wiring harness.

  33. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    • Use a suitable transmission jack to support the transfer case.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Use the special tool to remove the 8 bolts.

      Special Tool(s): 303-1069 

    • Remove the transfer case.

    Remove the transmission cap.

    • Remove the nut.
    • Remove the EPR  lever.
