CAUTION:

New transmission assemblies are supplied pre-filled with transmission fluid.
Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
Steps 1 to 10 are only required if the components were previously removed.

Remove the torque converter retainer.

Make sure that the torque converter is fully engaged to the transmission.

- Install the Emergency Park Release (EPR) lever.
- Install the nut.
  Torque : 12 Nm

Install the transmission cap.
WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

- Install the transfer case.
- Use the special tool to install and tighten the 8 bolts.
  Special Tool(s): 303-1069
  
  Torque : 55 Nm
- Remove the transmission jack.
  General Equipment: Transmission jack

Install the transmission wiring harness.

- Install and tighten the 2 wiring harness bracket bolts.
  Torque : 25 Nm
- Connect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Install the wiring harness clip.

- Install the heatshield.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque : 10 Nm

- Install and tighten the 4 wiring harness bolts.
  Torque : 10 Nm
- Connect the transmission electrical connector.

- Install the 2 breather pipes.
- Install the wiring harness clip.
CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.

Install the transmission.

Install and tighten the 2 lower transmission to engine bolts.

Torque : 48 Nm

Install and tighten the 4 right side transmission to engine bolts.

Torque : 48 Nm

Install and tighten the 4 left side transmission to engine bolts.

Torque : 48 Nm
CAUTION: Only rotate the camshaft clockwise.

Install and tighten the 4 new torque converter bolts.

Renew Part: Torque converter bolt(s) Quantity: 4 .

Torque : 65 Nm

- Reposition the breather pipe in the correct location.
- Install and tighten the 2 nuts.
  Torque : 22 Nm

- Reposition the solenoid assembly to the correct location.
- Install and hand tighten the bolt.
- Connect the solenoid electrical connector.

Install the transmission breather pipe clip.

Install the 2 EPR cable clips.

- Reposition the EPR cable in the correct location.
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque : 11 Nm
- Install the EPR cable to the transmission.
- Install the EPR clip.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

- Install the 2 new O-ring seals.
  Renew Part: Transmission fluid cooler tubes O-ring seal(s) Quantity: 2 .
- Install the transmission fluid cooler pipes.
- Install and tighten the bolt.
  Torque : 22 Nm

- Connect the transmission to body wiring harness electrcial connector.
- Install the 2 wiring harness clips.
Install the front driveshaft.
Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT
Install the rear driveshaft.

Install the starter motor.

- Remove the engine support beam and the engine support adapter.
  Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1692 , JLR-303-1692-04

Install and tighten the breather pipe bolt.

Install the secondary bulkhead panel.

Install the hood.
