The ZF 8P75XPH transmission is an electronically controlled, hydraulically operated, 8 speed automatic unit, unique to the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).
The ZF 8P75XPH transmission is similar in design to the ZF 8HP70 transmission but has the following major differences:
- The torque converter is replaced with a CIMG and a separate dual mass flywheel.
- The brake 'B' is used as a 'Launch Clutch' to start the vehicle moving from standstill in place of the traditional torque converter functionality.
The ZF 8P75XPH transmission has the following features:
- It is designed to be maintenance free.
- The ATF filter and the ATF is replaced as indicated in the service check sheets.
- The engine disconnect clutch to disengage engine from the CIMG when vehicle is operating in Electric Vehicle (EV) mode.
- The shift programs controlled by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- The Adaptive Shift Strategy (ASIS), to provide continuous adaption of shift changes to suit the driving style of the driver. This can vary from sporting to economical.
- It is connected to the PCM through the FlexRay bus for communications.
- There are support diagnostic services available from the TCM through the FlexRay bus.
The transmission selections are made using the linear TCS in the floor console.
The PHEV engine features auto stop/start technology. The electric ATF pump makes sure pressurized ATF is available to the shift elements as quickly as possible when the engine is started.
