Wheel Knuckle (G1509293): Removal
CAUTION:
Nuts and bolts must be tightened with vehicle at normal ride height.
NOTE:
- If a new knuckle is installed, a new wheel bearing must be installed.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Special tool 204-598 may be substituted with LR-121.
- Before replacing the wheel knuckle, make sure to have followed the diagnosis and testing procedure.

- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

NOTE:
- Apply the brake pedal during the removal and installation of the halfshaft retaining nut.
- Retain the nut for use in the installation procedure.

CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
Using the special tools, release the halfshaft from the wheel hub.

CAUTION:
- Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.
- LH side: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang on the brake pad wear warning sensor lead.
NOTE: Discard the bolts. Loosen the tie rod end locking nut.
Using the special tool, release the tie rod end.
Discard the tie rod end locking nut.
Loosen, but do not fully remove the nut.

NOTE: This step is only required for special tool 204-598. If LR-121 is used, do not install JLR-204-838-01.
Assemble the special tools.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-838-01 , 204-598

CAUTION: Make sure the special tool is correctly located and the lower ball joint boot is not damaged while carrying out the operation. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.

Remove and discard the nut.
Loosen, but do not fully remove the nut.

Remove and discard the nut.
Remove and discard the upper control arm to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
Using the special tools, release the halfshaft from the drive flange.
