Front Air Springs - Shock Absorber Fluid Leak Diagnostics

In the case of customer reports of a knock type sound from one or both front air springs when traveling over speed bumps at low speed, the air springs should be inspected for shock absorber fluid leaks as follows:

  1. Remove the air spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to: SHOCK ABSORBER AND SPRING ASSEMBLY
  2. Invert the air spring and shock absorber assembly over a suitable container (required to collect any fluids escaping from the air spring and shock absorber assembly - see illustration below)

  3. Wait for at least five minutes and look for evidence of fluid flowing from the air suspension air line connector
  4. If escaping fluid is noted, the air spring and shock absorber assembly must be replaced. Refer to: SHOCK ABSORBER AND SPRING ASSEMBLY
  5. If a fluid residue is not visible, the concern is not likely to be related to the air spring module and further reference should be made to the repair information for any related Technical Service Bulletins
