Fuel Tank Isolation Valve
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
The fuel tank isolation valve provides precise electronic fuel vapor management for the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
While the vehicle is running in electrical mode fuel vapor pressure in the fuel tank can increase. The fuel vapor flows from the fuel tank to the fuel tank isolation valve.
The pressure in the fuel tank is sensed by a fuel tank pressure sensor. The pressure sensor is located in the fuel tank signal line. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) senses the pressure signal via hardwire connection.
Based on the measured pressure signal, the PCM operates the fuel tank isolation valve. The fuel tank isolation valve opens its valve, and the pressure in the fuel tank decreases.
