Pinpoint Test A: Transmission Shift Quality

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. A1: TECHNICAL BULLETIN OR SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE
NOTE: Do not clear the transmission adaptions or update any vehicle software until instruction informs you too.
    1. The purpose of this diagnosis is to Diagnosis shift quality issues reported by the customer. Confirm customers complaint when driving with customer in vehicle where possible, Important points to confirm :-
      • What gear did the fault occur?
      • Did the fault occur in upshift or downshift?
      • Was the vehicle in a special mode?
    2. Check the Jaguar Land Rover claims submission system to clarify if the vehicle has any outstanding campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSMs which may be valid for the specific customer complaint.

Has a corresponding campaign, bulletin or SSM been located?

      Yes:  Completed recommendations as required.

      No:  GO to  A2.

  2. A2: TRANSMISSION ADAPTIONS
    1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Automatic Transmission Total Adaption Display: Follow the JLR approved diagnostic equipment prompts.
      • Select 'ECU Diagnostics'.
      • Select 'Transmission Control Module [TCM]'.
      • Select 'ECU Functions'.
      • Select 'Transmission control module Total Adaption Display'.
      • Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task.

If the transmission adaptions are not at the correct level, perform the recommended action as launched from the routine. Have extra transmission adaption values been learnt?

Yes:  Perform a road test and re-assess the quality of the gear shift. If the gear shift concern has now been corrected return the vehicle to the customer.

      No:  GO to  A3.

  3. A3: DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHECK
    1. Using the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment, perform routine - Read Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC). Check for DTC  in the following control module:
      • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Are there DTC  in the above modules?

Yes:  Refer to the relevant DTC  index and perform the relevant corrective actions. Perform a road test and re-assess the quality of the gear shift. If the gear shift concern is still present GO to PINPOINT TEST B .. If the gear shift concern has now been corrected return the vehicle to the customer.

No:  GO to PINPOINT TEST B .
