The pressure operated one way valve stops engine coolant to flow backwards through the radiator when the electric engine coolant pump is switched on. The pressure operated one way valve allows the engine coolant to flow to the top hose and down to the radiator, if the thermostat of the engine is closed. Otherwise the flow goes in the usual direction to the main engine water pump.
