Starting System - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol/INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol - PHEV (G2154005): Overview

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

The starting system consists of a starter motor that engages with the ring gear on the crankshaft drive plate. Operation of the starter motor is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The starting system incorporates an auto stop/start system. The auto stop/start system is controlled by the PCM using Controller Area Network (CAN) messages and signals from other system components and modules. The PCM determines the correct conditions for system operation. The auto stop/start system automatically stops and starts the engine when appropriate conditions are met. This reduces the amount of time the engine is running at idle speed which improves economy and reduces engine emissions.

The auto stop/start system warning indicator provides a visual indication of when the engine is stopped in an auto stop/start cycle. The auto stop/start system function is automatically activated each time an ignition cycle occurs. However, if required the driver can deactivate the system using the auto stop/start switch.

The auto stop/start system incorporates a brake vacuum sensor to enable the PCM to monitor the pressure in the brake booster during stop/start operation.

The auto stop/start system uses a Voltage Quality Module (VQM). The VQM provides sufficient startup battery power for repeated engine starts without affecting the operation of the vehicle systems. For additional information, Refer to: BATTERY AND CABLES
