Electric Power Inverter Converter (G2165128): Overview

The Electric Power Inverter Converter (EPIC) controls the hybrid drive assembly which incorporates the Motor Generator (MG). The EPIC receives messages from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and changes the operation of the MG between a motor and a generator as required.
When the MG operates as a motor the EPIC takes Direct Current (DC) power from the PHEV battery. The EPIC changes the DC to 3-phase Alternating Current (AC). It controls the 3-phases to deliver the required power from the MG.
When the MG operates as a generator the EPIC converts the 3-phase AC from the MG into to DC to charge the PHEV battery.
