Belt Integrated Starter Generator (G2915927): Overview

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

The 12V BISG  is used as a starter motor on the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The BISG  has been introduced to provide a virtually silent engine crank. There is a Direct Current to Direct Current (DC/DC) Converter to provide 12V power from the High Voltage battery (HV Battery) to the vehicle systems. Therefore in this application the generator function of the 12V BISG  is not used.

NOTE: The BISG  does not operate as a generator in this configuration. Refer to the DC/DC  Converter for details of the charging of the startup battery.

The 12V BISG  is used to perform all engine cranks when the outside ambient temperature is above -5°C (as measured by the vehicle). The conventional starter motor is used for engine cranks when the ambient temperature is -5°C or below.
