Cooling System Partial Draining And Vacuum Filling (G1798818): Draining

WARNING: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, do not remove the filler cap from the coolant expansion tank while the system is hot.

CAUTION:

The engine cooling system must be maintained with the correct concentration and type of engine coolant to prevent corrosion and frost damage. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If spilt, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.

NOTE:

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

WARNING: When releasing the cooling system pressure, cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a thick cloth.

CAUTION: Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, make sure the vehicle cooling system is cool prior to carrying out this procedure.

Remove engine undershield. Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD
Position a container to collect the fluid.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

Remove the radiator drain plug and allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.

Install the radiator drain plug.

Torque : 3.5 Nm
