SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
Engine stops/stalls
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system disconnected/restricted/blocked
  • Engine management system fault
  • Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check the powertrain control module for related DTC  s and refer to the relevant DTC  index
  • Inspect the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system
    • Check the engine breather hoses for blockages. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the engine vent oil separator. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the positive crankcase ventilation valve(s). Replace as necessary
Accelerator response poor
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system disconnected/restricted/blocked
  • Engine management system fault
Excessive fuel consumption
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system restricted/blocked
  • Engine management system fault
Excessive black smoke
Excessive emissions
Excessive blow-by
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system restricted/blocked
  • Inspect the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system
    • Check the engine breather hoses for blockages. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the engine vent oil separator. Rectify as necessary
Engine oil leaks
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system blocked/leaking
  • Positive crankcase ventilation valve failure
  • Inspect the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system
    • Check the engine breather hoses for blockages. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the engine vent oil separator. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the positive crankcase ventilation valve(s). Replace as necessary
Excessive oil consumption
  • Positive crankcase ventilation system blocked/leaking
  • Positive crankcase ventilation valve failure
  • Inspect the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system
    • Check the engine breather hoses for blockages. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the engine vent oil separator. Rectify as necessary
    • Check the positive crankcase ventilation valve(s). Replace as necessary
