Hybrid Electric Vehicle Power Down/Up (G2201736): Deactivation
- This procedure must be carried out in the exact sequence shown. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.
- It is the responsibility of the EVAP/EVSAP to make sure they comply with any local legislation regarding working with High Voltages (HV) within this procedure.
- This procedure requires the use Class 0 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), all persons involved in this procedure must have read and understood the PPE requirements as detailed in the Electric Vehicle Safety Rules.
- The approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn where indicated by the orange PPE icons within this procedure, all persons involved in this procedure must have read and understood the safety information.
- All PPE equipment must be checked for wear or damage prior to use and replaced if damaged.
- All safety locking device keys must be kept in the designated key lock box at least 5 metres away from the vehicle.
- All Permit To Work (PTW) documents must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

WARNING: Jaguar Land Rover Electric Vehicle Authorised Person (EVAP) trained technicians only.
This procedure involves working on EV systems containing High Voltage (HV). Only technicians qualified to EVAP level or higher are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that the entire power down/up procedure is completed by a single EVAP only, all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure must have read and understood the Electric Vehicle Safety Rules.

- Before handling any High Voltage (HV) connectors the EVAP must refer to the HV electrical connector operation and inspection document.

- Check the Instrument Cluster for Warning symbols and messages.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment complete a diagnostic check on the vehicle for any stored DTCs relating to the high voltage system.

- If necessary, quarantine the vehicle and follow the approved process.

WARNING: If any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) relating to the HV system the vehicle must be quarantined. - Make sure that the transmission is in PARK with the ignition switched off and the doors unlocked.
- Open the liftgate and position the latch to prevent the liftgate from locking once the vehicle electrical power is removed.

NOTE: Vehicles fitted without Business Seats.
Make sure the second row seating is folded down for access.

Make sure the second row seating is moved forward for access.
Position all smart keys at least 5 metres away from the vehicle and lock in the designated key box. Press the ignition switch to verify that there is no communication with the smart key.
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-018
- Make sure that the appropriate sign is displayed on the vehicle, where it is clearly visible. The sign should state that:
- The vehicle high voltage electrical system is operational.
- The vehicle high voltage electrical system is active.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment locate the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) power down application within the service tab, but do not
start the process at this stage.

WARNING: All external 12 volt sources must be disconnected from the vehicle before proceeding.
Make sure that all external 12 volt sources are disconnected from the vehicle. For example; towbar sockets, 12 volt accessory sockets and charging points.
Apply the protective sticker to the charge flap on the vehicle as shown in the illustration, make sure the charge flap can not be opened once applied.
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-024
Remove the loadspace compartment floor trim.
- Remove the right loadspace side trim panel.
Refer to: RIGHT LOADSPACE TRIM PANEL
Disconnect the auxiliary battery ground cable from the body ground stud.

WARNING:
- Make sure that the battery ground cable is placed securely away from the battery ground terminal.
- Make sure that an insulated padlock is used for this lock-out tool.
NOTE: The key must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.Apply the lock-out tool and insulated padlock to the auxiliary battery cable.

WARNING: Make sure that the battery ground cable is placed securely away from the battery ground terminal.
Disconnect the startup battery ground cable and tie aside.
Disconnect the startup battery positive cable.

NOTE: The key must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.
- Install the locking tool to the startup battery positive terminal.
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-020
- Install the startup battery positive cable to the special tool as shown in the illustration.
- Install the padlock to the locking tool.
- Install the locking tool to the startup battery positive terminal.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Remove the transmission undertray.
Remove the High Voltage Junction Box (HVJB) heatshield.

WARNING: Make sure the DC-DC cable is secured and can not contact the DC-DC converter terminal.
Disconnect the 12 volt lead from the Direct Current-Direct Current (DC-DC) converter and tie aside.
- Lower the vehicle.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
- The following steps require the Safety Accompanying Person (EVCP) within the vicinity of the power down procedure. This person must have access to the safety hook at all times.

NOTE: The Master Service Disconnect (MSD) must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.
Follow the disconnect stages shown in the illustration and remove the Master Service Disconnect (MSD) from the vehicle.
Install the MSD lock-off special tool.

NOTE: The key must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.
Install a padlock to the MSD lock-off special tool.

WARNING: If this step is not followed there could potentially be residual voltage in the HV system.
Allow a minimum of 5 minutes for the HV capacitors in the inverter to discharge.

WARNING: Do not carry out this step until the High Voltage (HV) system has been allowed to completely discharge
Release the HV connector locking lever and detach from the battery.

Install the lock-out special tool to the HV battery connector.

- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment start the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application and carry out the equipment safety test on the break-out box VM8105.

- Install the safety check connector to the female connector on the VM8105.
Special Tool(s): VM8109
- Press the test button and wait for a test pass to be displayed on the screen.

- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment start the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application and carry out the equipment safety test on the break-out box VM8105.
- Install the safety check connector to the male connector on the break-out box VM8105.
- Press the test button and wait for a test pass to be displayed on the screen.

If the equipment safety test was successful proceed to the next step. If the equipment safety test failed another break-out box VM8105 must be acquired and the procedure started again from step 32.

- Install the special tool blanking cap JLR-415-042 to the break-out box VM8105.

- Connect the break out box VM8105 to the vehicle HV cable (1).

- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the black socket on the break-out box and the red test probe to the red socket on the break-out box VM8105, then follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.

- Install the special tool blanking cap JLR-415-042 to the break-out box VM8105.
- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (1) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.

- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (1) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Connect the red AVL 2000 test probe to the black test socket on the break-out box VM8105. (1).

- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (2) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Connect the red AVL 2000 test probe to the black test socket on the break-out box VM8105. (1).
- If the application tests result in a pass proceed to step 43.
- If the power down application resulted in a failed voltage test Do not disconnect the break-out box VM8105 from the HV battery cable. Position the cables safely and check the following:
- Check that steps 9- 22 have been completed correctly.
- Check that steps 24- 28 have been completed correctly.
- Once the above steps have been completed repeat the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application again. If the application results in another failure place the vehicle in quarantine as detailed in steps 41 and 42 and contact JLR Technical Assistance (TA).

WARNING: Do not disconnect the special tool VM8105 from the HV battery cable .
Do not disconnect the break-out box VM8105 from the HV battery cable, position the cables safely in to the luggage compartment and do not close the liftgate.

- Quarantine the vehicle and contact JLR Technical Assistance (TA).

- Make sure that the appropriate sign is displayed on the vehicle, where it is clearly visible. The sign should state that:
- Danger electrical system live.
- Vehicle electrical system live.
- Quarantine the vehicle and contact JLR Technical Assistance (TA).
Disconnect the HV battery cable from the break-out box VM8105 .

WARNING: The equipment safety test must be repeated according to the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Power Down/Up application, failure to follow this could result in serious personal injury.
- The Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application will request another equipment safety test, follow the on screen instructions as detailed in steps 32- 34.
- If the equipment safety test was successful proceed to the next step.
- If the equipment safety test failed another break-out box VM8105 must be acquired and the procedure started again from step 32.
Disconnect the auxiliary HV cable from the battery, make sure the connector is released as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: The HV connector lock-off tool key must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.
Install the auxiliary HV cable lock down tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-023
- The Hybrid Electric Vehicle Power down application will now test the auxiliary circuit.
- The test will require the auxiliary break out box and the safety check connectors.
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-060
- Install the safety check connector to the female side of the auxiliary break out box JLR-415-060 (A), as shown in the illustration.
- Connect the AVL test probes as shown in the illustration and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Install the safety check connector to the male side of the auxiliary break out box JLR-415-060 (B), as shown in the illustration.
- Connect the AVL test probes as shown in the illustration and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
If the equipment safety test was successful proceed to the next step. If the equipment safety test failed another auxiliary break out box must be acquired and the procedure started again from step 48.
- Connect the blanking plug JLR-415-067 to the auxiliary break out box male connector.

- Connect the auxiliary break out box to the auxiliary HV circuit on the vehicle (1).
Special Tool(s): JLR-415-060

- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the black socket on the auxiliary break-out box and the red test probe to the red socket on the auxiliary break-out box, then follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Connect the blanking plug JLR-415-067 to the auxiliary break out box male connector.
- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (1) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
General Equipment: Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (1) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Connect the red AVL 2000 test probe to the black negative test socket on the auxiliary break out box (1).

- Connect the black AVL 2000 test probe to the auxiliary battery ground stud (2) and follow the on screen instructions within the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application.
- Connect the red AVL 2000 test probe to the black negative test socket on the auxiliary break out box (1).
Do not disconnect the auxiliary HV battery cable from the auxiliary break out box, position the cables safely in to the luggage compartment and do not close the liftgate.
- Quarantine the vehicle and contact JLR Technical Assistance (TA).

- Make sure that the appropriate sign is displayed on the vehicle, where it is clearly visible. The sign should state that:
- Danger electrical system live.
- Vehicle electrical system live.
- Quarantine the vehicle and contact JLR Technical Assistance (TA).
- WARNING: The equipment safety test must be repeated according to the Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application, failure to follow this could result in serious personal injury.
- The Hybrid Electric Vehicle power down application. Will request another auxiliary equipment safety test as detailed in steps 48- 51.
- If the equipment safety test was successful proceed to the next step.
- If the equipment safety test failed another auxiliary break out box must be acquired and the procedure started again from step 48.

WARNING: The MSD and padlock keys must be placed in the designated key box and secured by the responsible EVAP.
Place the MSD and all padlock keys in the designated key box and lock securely. The key to the lock box must be kept by the EVAP, refer to the EV Safety Rules for further instructions if required.

- Make sure that the appropriate sign is displayed on the vehicle, where it is clearly visible. The sign should state that:
- Re-work is in progress.
- The vehicle high voltage electrical system is disabled and safe to work on.
- The vehicle high voltage electrical system is isolated.

NOTE: Only a EVAP trained technician can issue a PTW.
- A Permit To Work (PTW) can now be issued by the EVAP using the instruction detailed in the EV safety rules.
