PHEV Battery Temperature Control (G2298785): Operation
The Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) monitors the internal temperature of the PHEV battery when the vehicle is driven or the PHEV battery charged.
If the internal temperature of the PHEV battery is less than a specified temperature the BECM will activate the PHEV battery coolant pump and the PHEV battery heater. This will heat the PHEV battery coolant and circulate it through the PHEV battery to increase the internal temperature of the PHEV battery.
If the internal temperature of the PHEV battery is more than a specified temperature the BECM will activate the PHEV battery coolant pump and either:
- Activate the PHEV battery changeover valve to allow the PHEV battery coolant to circulate through the PHEV battery radiator.
- Send a message to the HVAC Control Module to activate the PHEV battery cooler connected to the Air Conditioning (A/C) system. The HVAC will then activate the following:
- The electric A/C compressor.
- The A/C front isolation valve. To allow the refrigerant to flow to the rear of the vehicle.
- The isolation valve on the PHEV battery cooler connected to the A/C system.
The message from the BECM is transmitted to the HVAC via the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) power mode zero systems bus.
