Fuel Pump Driver Module

The Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) regulates the flow and pressure of the fuel pump module through a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the operation of the FPDM through a PWM signal. The on time of the PWM signal represents half the fuel pump module speed.

The FPDM only energizes the fuel pump module when a valid PWM signal is received, with an on time of between 4% and 50%. To switch the fuel pump module OFF, the PCM transmits a PWM signal with an on time of 75%.

The fuel pressure from the fuel pump module changes depend on the engine and fuel temperature. The PCM receives the signals from the low fuel pressure sensor and adjusts the speed of the fuel pump module. The nominal output pressure of the fuel pump module is 4.5 bar (65.3 lbf/in2 ) to 6.3 bar (91.4 lbf/in2 ) absolute.

When the PCM does not detect pressure signal in the fuel delivery line, the PCM refuses to start the engine. The PCM also stores the appropriate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

The FPDM is supplied power through the pump module relay in the Rear Junction Box (RJB). The fuel pump relay is active in all power modes, except in Power Mode 0. In the event of an accident, the Restraints Control Module (RCM) sends a crash signal to the PCM to disable the fuel pump module relay.
