Startup Battery And Cables (G2319497): Overview: Notes

The startup battery supplies electrical power to the Battery Junction Box (BJB). The BJB connects to the following components through the startup battery busbar:

The DC/DC converter supplies the power for normal operation of the 12V systems only in Power Mode 7 (engine running) through the startup battery busbar.

The BJB supplies power to the following:

The Battery Monitoring System (BMS) control module is mounted on the startup battery negative terminal. The BMS control module is connected to the vehicle body ground by a ground cable mounted on the BMS control module. The BMS control module sends startup battery data to the BCM/GWM. If a new startup battery is installed to the vehicle, the BMS control module requires re-calibrating using a Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment.

CAUTION: When connecting a slave startup battery to the vehicle, always use the vehicle body ground terminal in the engine compartment. Never connect directly to the startup battery ground terminal, because the Battery Monitoring System (BMS) control module can be damaged.

The BCM/GWM is the main controller of the vehicle body systems. The BCM/GWM contains the whole charging system software required to control the startup battery charging system and components. The BCM/GWM monitors the components and can store fault related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

The electrical power to charge the startup battery and provide the power for the 12V vehicle electrical system is provided by the DC/DC converter. The DC/DC converter is ON only in Power Mode 7 (engine running). The DC/DC converter is controlled by the BCM/GWM.

For additional information, Refer to: DIRECT CURRENT TO DIRECT CURRENT CONVERTER

NOTE: The fusible links are mounted behind a removable cover.

The BJB is located on the left side of the loadspace behind the trim panel. The EJB is located in the rear left of the engine compartment. The PJB is mounted on the passengers side behind the glovebox next to the BCM/GWM. The RJB is located on the left side of the loadspace behind the trim panel. The EJB, PJB and RJB contain fuses and relays to distribute electrical power to various vehicle systems.

The 2 jump start terminals are located adjacent to the right side top mount in the engine compartment. A cover protects the positive terminal when not in use. If jump starting is required, the cover must be removed and the positive jump lead attached securely. The cover must be installed to the positive terminal when not in use. The negative jump lead is attached to a stud located on the right side top mount.
