Front Row Seat Recliner Shaft (G2833344): Repair

WARNING: Edges of the seat frame are sharp and burry, make sure to wear cut proof gloves under the procedure. Failure to follow this instruction may result to personal injury.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Remove the front row seat backrest

    Refer to: FRONT ROW SEAT BACKREST CUSHION - VEHICLES WITH: POWER SEATS

    Mark up recliner positions on both sides of seat with a straight line between the plastic cover, the adapter plate and the end stop.

    • Remove the retaining washer from the non-motor side of the recliner shaft.
    • Push the recliner shaft through and slide out of seat.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove the Front row seat recliner motor.

    • Place a new retaining washer into a suitable socket and knock onto the end of the new recliner shaft with a hammer.
    • The distance between end of shaft and the inner face of washer cannot be bigger than 10 mm. For reference, compare the distance of the washer between the new shaft and the old shaft.
  6. NOTE: The drive for the new motor is likely to be out of alignment compared to the recliner.

    • Install the new recliner shaft through the recliner and align with the markings.
    • As pushing through install and align the new front row seat recliner motor.
    • Align the front row seat recliner motor.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 4 Nm 

    • Connect the electrical connector.
  8. CAUTION:
    • Take care not to knock the washer from the shaft
    • Do not turn recliners in opposing directions, this will cause twisting at the rearmost/foremost positions.

    • Push the new recliner shaft all the way through towards the other recliner.
    • From the outside, use the old recliner shaft to turn the recliner in the same direction as that which was required for the other side.

    • Turn the seat frame to its side to prevent the shaft sliding out of the seat.
    • Place a new retaining washer into a suitable socket and knock onto the end of the new recliner shaft with a hammer.
    • Check that there is no left/right sliding movement of the shaft. Knock washer further in if movement is detected

    • Operate the backrest to the most rearward position using power from vehicle.
    • Make sure that the end stops make contact with adapter plate at the same time.
    • Repeat it for the most forward position.
    • Check for abnormal noise/juddering/vibration.
  11. Install the front row seat backrest Refer to: FRONT ROW SEAT BACKREST CUSHION - VEHICLES WITH: POWER SEATS
