Wheel Knuckle (G2426757): Removal

CAUTION: Nuts and bolts must be tightened with vehicle at normal ride height.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  2. Use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic system, to depressurize the air spring at the relevant corner.

    Refer to: AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM DEPRESSURIZE AND PRESSURIZE

  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.

    Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE

  4. CAUTION: Do not use air tools to remove the halfshaft nut.
    NOTE:
    • Retain the nut for the installation procedure.
    • Apply the brake pedal during the removal of the halfshaft nut.

    Remove the rear halfshaft nut.

    Release the height sensor from the rear lower control arm.

  6. Remove the rear brake disc.

    Refer to: BRAKE DISC - VEHICLES WITH: 325 MM BRAKE DISC

    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Remove the rear brake disc shield.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Release the wheel speed sensor from the rear wheel knuckle.

    • Remove and discard the bolt and nut.
    • Reposition the 2 rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links away from the rear lower control arm.

    • Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
    • Release the rear tie-rod from the rear wheel knuckle.
  11. CAUTION: To prevent the wheel knuckle falling outwards and disconnection of the halfshaft inner joint, support the wheel knuckle.

    • Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
    • Release the rear shock absorber from the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Remove and discard the bolt.
    • Release the rear lower control arm from the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Use a suitable transmission jack to support the rear wheel knuckle.

      General Equipment:  Transmission jack

  12. CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.

    • Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
    • Release the rear upper control arm from the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Use the special tool, to release the halfshaft from the rear wheel knuckle.

      Special Tool(s): 204-506/1  , 204-506/3  , 204-506/5 

    • Remove the rear wheel knuckle.
    • Remove the special tool from the rear wheel knuckle.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Remove and discard the rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle nut.
  14. NOTE: Do not disassemble further, if the component has been removed for access only.

    • Remove and discard the bolt and nut.
    • Remove the 2 rear lower control arm to rear wheel knuckle links.
