Left Turbocharger (G2131201): Removal

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Remove the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
Refer to: CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER ASSEMBLY
Remove the left Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
Refer to: LEFT EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE
Remove the exhaust manifold cross-over pipe.
Refer to: EXHAUST MANIFOLD CROSS-OVER PIPE
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

Disconnect the bolt from the oil supply pipe and discard the washers.

Disconnect the charge air cooler outlet pipe from the turbocharger.

Disconnect the clean air intake pipe from the turbocharger.

- Install the special tool.
  Special Tool(s): 303-021
- Install the special tools.
  Special Tool(s): 303-1129
- Install and tighten the 3 bolts.
  Torque : 22 Nm
- Make sure the engine is fully supported by the special tools.
WARNING: Make sure the engine is fully supported before this step is completed.

- Remove and discard the nut.
- Remove and discard the 4 bolts.
- Remove the left engine mount bracket.

- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the turbocharger support bracket.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

Remove and discard the turbocharger oil return pipe.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping engine coolant.

Release the bolt from the turbocharger coolant supply pipe.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping engine coolant.

Disconnect the bolt from the coolant pipe.

Remove the exhaust manifold heatshield.

Remove the turbocharger and discard the gasket and nuts.

Remove and discard the exhaust manifold studs.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping engine coolant.

- Remove the coolant pipes.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
