8 Timing chain and tensioner
9 Exhaust camshaft pulley (bank 2)
10 Crankshaft pulley
11 Timing belt tensioner
12 Timing belt

Primary drive of the camshafts is provided by a toothed timing belt from the crankshaft to the exhaust camshaft pulleys. Timing belt alignment is maintained by 2 idler pulleys.

Timing belt adjustment is achieved by the eccentric type timing belt tensioner mounted on the front face of the cylinder block.

The timing belt cover is secured to the cylinder block, cylinder heads, intake manifolds and oil pump housing and sealed with a gasket.

ITEM DESCRIPTION
1 Special tool
2 Bank 1 timing chain
3 Bolt (quantity 2)
4 Intake camshaft
5 Exhaust camshaft
6 Timing chain tensioner

Secondary drive is provided by 2 chains, which transfer drive from the exhaust camshafts to the intake camshafts. The chains are located at the rear of the right cylinder bank and the front of the left cylinder bank. This design reduces the length of timing chain necessary to drive the camshafts. Each timing chain is tensioned via a chain tensioner, which acts directly on the timing chains via a guide. The tensioners are located between the exhaust and intake camshafts of each bank.

The special tool holds the timing chain tensioner in a compressed state to aid installation.
