Left Cylinder Head (G2128210): Installation

  1. Check the cylinder head for distortion.

    Refer to: CYLINDER HEAD DISTORTION

  2. CAUTION:
    • Make sure care is taken when handling the cylinder head gasket.
    • The cylinder head gasket must be installed over the cylinder block dowels.
    • Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Install the cylinder head. Renew the new gasket.

    Renew Part: Cylinder head gasket Quantity: 1  .

  3. CAUTION: Make sure that new cylinder head bolts are installed.
    NOTE: Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence.

    1. Tighten the bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1653  , 303-1492 

      Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 8  .

      Torque  : 20 Nm 

    2. Tighten the bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    3. Loosen bolt 1 then tighten.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    4. Loosen bolts 2 to 8 then tighten.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    5. Tighten bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 90° 

    6. Tighten bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 120° 

  4. Remove the special tools.

    Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1653  , 303-1492

    Install the new cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.

    Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 3  .

    Torque  : 25 Nm

    Install the new cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.

    Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 2  .

    Torque  : 12 Nm 

  7. CAUTION:
    • If a new cylinder head has been installed then new tappets must be installed.
    • If the cylinder head is being removed without a new component being installed, the tappets must be installed in their original positions.

    Install the 12 tappets, lubricate with clean engine oil.

  8. Install the oil evacuation pipe. Renew the O-ring seal.

    Renew Part: Oil evacuation tube O-ring seal Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 12 Nm 

  9. Secure the fuel pipe.

    Torque  : 10 Nm 

  10. Install the engine coolant outlet pipe. Renew O-ring seals.

    Renew Part: Engine coolant outlet upper O-ring seal Quantity: 2  .

    Torque  : 10 Nm 

    • Connect the 2 coolant hoses.
    • Remove the coolant hose clamp.
    • Connect the electrical connector and secure the 2 clips.
  12. Install the knock sensor.

    Torque  : 20 Nm 

  13. Install the left camshaft.

    Refer to: LEFT CAMSHAFT 

  14. Install the left exhaust manifold.

    Refer to: LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD 

  15. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: LIFTING
