Cylinder Block Oil Plug (G2263909): Removal

CAUTION: Do not attempt this procedure if you are not experienced in cutting threads. The work should be outsourced to a local specialist.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Remove the front subframe.
Refer to: FRONT SUBFRAME - V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL
Remove the generator.
Refer to: GENERATOR
CAUTION: Do not use excessive force.

Using a suitable hammer and a 6 mm parallel drift, knock the center of the cylinder block oil plug into the cylinder block.

Use a suitable M8 tap to cut a thread into the cylinder block oil plug to a depth of 13 mm.

General Equipment: M8 tap

- Install a suitable M8 threaded bar to the cylinder block oil plug.
- Install the slide hammer to the M8 threaded bar.
  Special Tool(s): 100-012
CAUTION: Make sure the center of the cylinder block oil plug, that was knocked into the cylinder block in step 3, is removed from the cylinder block.

- Use the slide hammer to remove the cylinder block oil plug.
  Special Tool(s): 100-012
- Remove the center of the cylinder block oil plug.
- Discard the cylinder block oil plug.
CAUTION:
- Do not use air tools to remove any swarf or debris.
- Take care not to push any swarf or debris into the cylinder block.
- Use a suitable drill or reamer to make sure the hole in the cylinder block is the correct size for an M18 x 1.5 mm tap.
- Thoroughly clean the cylinder block, remove any swarf or debris that is present.
