Drive Plate

The drive plate is located at the rear of the crankshaft. The drive plate has 3 functions:
- To transfer drive from the crankshaft to the transmission.
- To transfer drive from the starter motor to the crankshaft.
- To provide a reluctor ring for the crankshaft position sensor.
The drive plate is secured to the crankshaft flange with 10 bolts and a locating dowel.
The drive plate is a pressed and cast steel fabrication, which comprises a cast steel starter ring gear and a pressed steel drive plate and reluctor ring. The 2 components are riveted together as 1 assembly.
Attachment of the transmission torque converter is with 4 bolts through the drive plate.
NOTE:
New drive plate bolts must be used when the drive plate is removed and installed.
