Variable Camshaft Timing Actuator (G1963860): Installation

• Remove the access cover.
• Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if damaged.

Make sure that the timing marks align as illustrated.

• Install the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) actuator.
• Make sure that the timing marks align as illustrated.
• Install, but do not fully tighten the bolt.

  Renew Part: Variable camshaft timing actuator bolts Quantity: 1 .

Install the access cover.

• Install and tighten the upper timing chain tensioner.
• Release the upper timing chain tensioner.
• Check the gap between the timing chain and the cylinder head as illustrated.
• If the timing chain is not in the illustrated position, or there is no gap, reposition the timing chain and remeasure.
• Remove and discard the upper timing chain tensioner.

Install a new upper timing chain guide.

Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 .

• Install the special tool.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1631 

• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque  : 10 Nm

Tighten the bolt.

Torque 

Stage1: 10 Nm 

Stage 2: Loosen 90° 

Stage 3: 25 Nm 

Stage 4: 40°

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the special tool.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1631

• Install a new timing chain guide.

  Renew Part: Upper timing chain guide Quantity: 1 . 

• Install and tighten the bolt.

  Torque  : 25 Nm

Before installing the new timing chain tensioner, make sure that the ratchet clip is on the first groove.

Renew Part: Timing chain tensioner Quantity: 1 .

Install and tighten the new upper timing chain tensioner.

Torque  : 55 Nm

Push and release the upper timing chain guide to release the upper timing chain tensioner.

• Remove the bolt.
• Remove the special tool.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1625

• Remove the 2 bolts.
• Remove the special tool.

  Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630

• Install the charge air cooler bracket.
• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque  : 40 Nm

• Install and tighten the 2 bolts.

  Torque  : 12 Nm 

• Install the 2 clips.

• Connect the electrical connector.
• Install the 2 clips.
