Camshaft Carrier (G2172630): Removal

NOTE:

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: BATTERY AND CABLES
Remove the fuel rail.
Refer to: FUEL RAIL
Remove the fuel injectors.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTORS (G1867850)
Remove the upper timing chain.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING CHAIN
CAUTION: Use 2 suitable M6 X 20 bolts to install the special tool to the cylinder head.

Install the special tool.

- Loosen the camshaft gear bolt but do not remove at this stage.
- Remove the special tool.

Remove the camshaft gear and discard the bolt.

Remove the special tool.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors and position the harness to one side.

Remove the cylinder head temperature sensor electrical connector bracket.

Position the breather vent module pipe to one side.

Remove the camshaft carrier and discard the gasket.
NOTE:
- Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Note the orientation of the component prior to removal

- Remove the camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the camshafts.
- Inspect the components and renew if damaged or worn.

Remove the breather vent module assembly and discard the gasket.

Remove the oil filler neck and discard the seal.

Remove the lifting brackets.
