Fuel Level Sensors
There are 2 fuel level sensors used to measure the amount of fuel remaining in the left and right sides of the fuel tank. The 'B' fuel level sensor is attached to the tank internal bracket. The 'A' fuel level sensor is attached to the outside of the fuel pump swirl pot. Both sensors are connected to the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) hardwired via the external electrical connector.
Both level sensors are Magnetic Passive Position Sensors (MAPPS) which provide a variable resistance to ground for the output from the fuel gauge.
The fuel level sensor signals are converted into FlexRay messages by the BCM/GWM. The signals are used by the IC for fuel gauge and fuel warning indicator operation. The signals are also monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to store On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) codes for misfire detection when the fuel level is below a predetermined capacity.
