TDV6 Exhaust Rattling Noise

Symptom
A customer may describe rattling noises coming from the vehicle during certain operating conditions. There may also be a smell of exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment and/or under the hood.

Actions
Using the 2 examples above, identify the type of exhaust system fitted to the vehicle before moving on to step 1.
- Complete a visual inspection of the exhaust system. Look for and damaged or loose components and/or evidence of a clash condition from the exhaust components. Replace any damaged or missing components before continuing to step 2.
- Referring to the illustration above, carefully inspect the areas that are highlighted with orange circles.
- Referring to the image below, slacken off the 4 Torca clamps that are highlighted in purple. There will be 2 Torca clamps that are located on the Selective Catalyst Reduction underfloor/EU5 link pipe. The other 2 Torca clamps will be located on each of the rear silencers
- Align the 2 front slip joints with the alignment bumps as shown in the illustration above
- Align each rear silencer with the tailpipe as shown in the illustration below
- Align each rear silencer with the center exhaust pipe. For correct installation and clearance, make sure the dimples on the center section of the exhaust are covered by the slip joints and Torca clamps. use the illustration below for guidance
- Torque all 4 of the Torca clamps to 55 Nm
- Test drive the vehicle to make sure the exhaust rattle has gone
