The fuel tank is manufactured using 6 layer co-extruded blow-molding technology providing both high mechanical strength and complete emissions integrity. The fuel tank is mounted under the second row floorpan, forward of the rear suspension.
The fuel tank has a useable capacity of 82 liters (21.7 (US) gallons).
The fuel tank is a saddle tank design, which secures to the vehicle floorpan with 2 straps that are bolted in position. The fuel filler neck is manufactured from stainless steel.
The fuel tank contains a fuel pump module which collects fuel from both sides of the fuel tank. The Low Pressure (LP) fuel pump supplies the engine's fuel demands while also supplying the fuel to power the 2 jet pumps. The rapid flow of fuel through the jet pump venturi nozzle creates a depression. The depression draws fuel back across the saddle into the pump side of the fuel tank and fills the fuel pump module swirl pot.
An internal bracket allows for the attachment of the left fuel pick-up and the fuel level sensor B.
An internal breather hose is connected to a stub port passing through the fuel tank casing. On non North American Specification (NAS) and China (CN6) vehicles an external pipe and hose connect this port to the top of the fuel filler neck. This enables the fuel tank to be filled and controls the fuel cut off during filling. On NAS only vehicles a combined fuel vapor and breather external hose connect to this port. A pipe connection splits the combined hose to independently connect pipes to the fuel filler neck and the evaporative emissions canister.
Fuel level inside the fuel tank is monitored by 2 fuel level sensors.
Roll-over Valve
The fuel tank has 3 roll-over valves to allow the fuel vapor to exit and prevent pressurization of the fuel tank in normal operation. In the event of a vehicle rollover, the roll-over valves close to prevent the leakage of fuel from the fuel tank.
- On vehicles except North American Specification (NAS) and China (CN6) vehicles:
- An internal breather hose connects the roll-over vales to a fuel vapor pipe connection on the fuel pump module flange.
- On NAS and China (CN6) vehicles:
- A combined roll-over valve and Fuel Limit Vent Valve (FLVV) expels the fuel vapor and air within the fuel tank through an internal breather hose. The internal breather hose is connected to a stub port passing through the fuel tank casing.
On all vehicles the fuel vapor is then routed to the evaporative emissions canister where it is stored before being purged at intervals to the engine's intake manifold.

Fuel Limit Vent Valve - All Except North American Specification and China (CN6) Vehicles
The Fuel Limit Vent Valve (FLVV) allows the fuel tank to be filled to its maximum, by expelling the air within the fuel tank. The air within the fuel tank is expelled through an internal breather hose connected to a stub port passing through the fuel tank casing. An external breather pipe connects this port to the top of the fuel filler neck.
Fuel Limit Vent Valve - North American Specification and China (CN6) Vehicles Only
To meet Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) requirements, the fuel tank and associated components are designed to minimize fuel vapor loss during refueling. This is achieved by preventing fuel vapor from the fuel tank venting directly to the atmosphere. Fuel vapor is directed into the evaporative emissions canister where it is stored before being purged at intervals to the engine's intake manifold.
