The charge air cooling system comprises:
- Charge air cooler
- Charge air radiator
- Charge air coolant pump.
The charge air cooler is an air-to-water heat exchanger, providing charge air cooling in combination with an electric coolant pump.
The charge air cooler is used to reduce the intake air temperature which increases the density of the intake air delivered to the combustion chambers.
The charge air cooler has a stand alone cooling system with its own charge air radiator, charge air coolant pump and hoses. The only connection to the main cooling circuit is a pipe from the top of the charge air cooler to the top of the main high temperature cooling circuit radiator. This is used to fill and bleed the system.
