Diesel Exhaust Fluid Tank Drain And Refill (G2019450): Filling

The following step(s) applies to: 

Using JLR approved equipment: JLR-F00100010 

1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment, follow the on-screen instructions and check the DEF  level.

   General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

2. CAUTION: Failure to complete this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.

   Using a hydrometer, check the quality of the DEF  within the DEF  dispensing kit.

   General Equipment: Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) quality hydrometer

   Make sure the operating levers of the DEF  dispensing kit are in the positions indicated.

   Make sure that the DEF  dispensing kit flow meter is reset.

5. CAUTION: Make sure that the upper tank is not overfilled. Observe at all times.

   • Switch on  the DEF  dispensing kit pump.
   • Fill the upper tank to the correct amount of DEF  , previously specified by the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment.
   • Switch off  the DEF  dispensing kit pump.
6. CAUTION:

   • Failure to complete this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle.
   • If any DEF  is visible in the clear filler pipe, this must be drained and discarded before proceeding to the next step.

   Make sure that the inner rubber feed hose is in the position shown.

7. CAUTION:

   • Make sure the DEF  dispensing kit is correctly installed onto the DEF  filler assembly.
   • Make sure that the vehicle paintwork is protected.

   Install the DEF  dispensing kit hose on to the DEF  filler pipe.

8. NOTE: Fluid may be visible in the outer hose.

   Position the DEF  dispensing kit upper  operating lever to the position indicated. The DEF  tank top-up procedure will now commence. Immediately proceed to the next step.

   • Fill the vehicle with the correct amount of DEF  specified by the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment.
   • When the correct amount has been reached, position the DEF  dispensing kit upper  operating lever to the position indicated.

    1. Position the DEF  dispensing kit lower  operating lever to the position indicated.
    2. Switch on  the DEF  dispensing kit pump to recover any DEF  remaining in the clear filler hose. The DEF  is recovered through the inner hose at the vehicle filler pipe. The hose may need to be raised to assist recovery.

    • Switch off  the d DEF  dispensing kit pump.
    • Position the DEF  dispensing kit lower operating lever to the position indicated.
12. Using the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment, follow the on-screen instructions and check the DEF  level.

13. CAUTION:

    • If any fluid remains in the clear filler pipe after the DEF  dispensing kit is disconnected from the vehicle, this must be drained and discarded before the equipment can be used again.
    • Make sure that the vehicle paintwork is protected.

    Disconnect the DEF  dispensing kit hose from the DEF  filler pipe.

14. CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Install and tighten the DEF  filler cap until 3 audible clicks are heard.

15. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to complete routine 0x4097 Reductant First Fill. When complete, run routine 0x4076 - Reductant Pressure Test. The ignition must stay on throughout the whole duration of these routines.

16. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to check the DEF  level.

   • Select the amount of DEF  to be filled as indicated at step 24.

   • Set the DEF  dispensing kit to auto fill.
   • Fill the vehicle with DEF  .

   Disconnect the DEF  dispensing kit from the DEF  filler pipe.

   Install the DEF  tank filler cap until an audible click is heard 3 times.

9. Use the JLR  approved diagnostic equipment to complete routine 0x4097 Reductant First Fill. When complete, run routine 0x4076 - Reductant Pressure Test. The ignition must stay on throughout the whole duration of these routines.
