High Pressure Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION
The High Pressure (HP) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler has a bypass valve. The bypass valve allows the exhaust gases to flow through the EGR cooler or flow direct to the intake manifold by-passing the EGR cooler. The HP EGR cooler bypass valve actuator receives a vacuum which is produced by the vacuum pump located at the bottom of the engine.
The vacuum supply to the actuator is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When bypass control is required, the PCM activates the HP EGR cooler bypass valve solenoid. The HP EGR cooler bypass valve solenoid applies vacuum to the HP EGR cooler bypass valve actuator.
The HP EGR cooler bypass valve position sensor is located in a bracket on the HP EGR cooler. The HP EGR bypass valve position sensor signal is received by the PCM via hardwired connection. The HP EGR temperature sensor is located on the HP EGR cooler outlet. The HP EGR temperature sensor signal is received by the PCM via hardwired connection.
