The engine vent oil separator is installed in a channel in the top of the camshaft carrier.
Piston blow-by gases are drawn through the engine vent oil separator. Engine oil drawn is collected by engine vent oil separator. The vapor is drawn into the turbocharger intake and added to the air charge.
The depression caused by the turbocharger draws gases from the crankcase, through the engine vent oil separator and the breather into the turbocharger.
The oil collects on the camshaft carrier and drains back into the oil system through the camshaft carrier.
On North American Specification (NAS) market and EU6D market vehicles, a crankcase pressure sensor is equipped to the top of the engine vent oil separator. The sensor is used to detect when a crankcase vent pipe is disconnected.
