Pinpoint Test B: SDD Vehicles - Balance Shaft Noise Diagnosis

- B1: BALANCE SHAFT NOISE
- Remove the accessory drive belt and confirm if the engine noise can still be heard. Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT
- If the engine noise is still present continue to Inline Diagnostic Unit 2 (IDU2) ep 3. If the noise is no longer present, continue diagnosis REFER to: ACCESSORY DRIVE
- Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a new session.
- Follow the JLR approved diagnostic equipment prompts.NOTE:
- In addition to the existing IDU2 kit (part number JLR-IDU2-ROW) which contains the IDU2 and Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) sensor, the NVH sensor may require charging prior to use.
- Full instructions on how and when to use the tooling are displayed within the IDU2 application on SDD.
- If the hyperlink is not available, the application can be found as follows:
- Select the 'Diagnosis' Session Type.
- Select the following symptoms.
- Powertrain, Engine System, Engine Performance, Noises.
- From Recommendations, run 'Noise vibration and harshness - Engine diagnostic'.
Did the vehicle pass the IDU2 application noise and vibration test?
Yes: If the IDU2 application passes, Continue diagnosis Refer to: TURBOCHARGER
No: If the IDU2 application fails continue to replace the balance shafts, REFER to: BALANCE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
