Electronic Engine Controls - TDV6 3.0L Diesel (G2006315): Operation: Diagnostics

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) stores each fault as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The DTC and associated environmental and freeze frame data can be read using an approved diagnostic system. The approved diagnostic system can also read:

Real time data from each sensor
The adaption values currently being employed
The current fueling settings
The current ignition settings
The current idle speed settings.

The freeze frame data can vary depending on the fault. Core freeze frame data for every DTC includes:

Power mode
Time
Distance
Battery voltage.

Specific sets of data are linked to each DTC. The selected data set will give the most useful supporting data to diagnose the fault.

The DTCs and any stored specific data can be retrieved from the PCM store by connecting an approved diagnostic equipment to the diagnostic connector. The data is sent by the FlexRay bus to the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) then to the diagnostic connector by the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) diagnostic bus.
