Electronic Engine Controls - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel (G2006313): Overview

The Ingenium I4 2.0 diesel engine has an Engine Management System (EMS) controlled by a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which monitors, adapts and precisely controls the fuel injection. The PCM uses multiple sensor inputs and precision control of actuators to achieve optimum performance during all driving conditions.

The PCM controls fuel delivery to all four cylinders via a fuel rail injection system. The fuel rail injection system uses a common fuel rail to accumulate highly pressurized fuel and feed the four, electronically controlled fuel injectors. The fuel rail is located in close proximity to the fuel injectors, which assists in maintaining full system pressure at each fuel injector at all times.

The PCM uses the drive by wire principle for acceleration control. Accelerator pedal demand is communicated to the PCM by signals from an Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor. The PCM uses the signals to determine the position, rate of movement and direction of movement of the accelerator pedal. The PCM then uses this data, along with other engine information from other sensors, to achieve the optimum engine response.
