Active Grille Air Shutter Motor

The active grille air shutter assembly is attached to the front end carrier, forward of the radiator. The active grille air shutter can open and close, controlling the air flow through the radiator cooling pack.

Operation of the active grille air shutter motor is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM communicates with the active grille air shutter motor on a Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus connection.

Power for the active grille air shutter motor is provided by a fused power supply from the PCM relay in the Engine Junction Box (EJB).

During normal driving operation, the PCM determines air shutter position from the thermal condition of the vehicle, which is an output of the Electric cooling fan control logic. The position of the air shutter is calculated using:

Engine coolant temperature
Air Conditioning (A/C) demand
Ambient air temperature
Fuel temperature.
