Catalytic Converter (G2020242): Removal

WARNING: Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Remove the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Remove the exhaust system.
Refer to: EXHAUST SYSTEM
WARNING: Make sure that the exhaust system is supported with suitable retaining straps.

- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Remove and discard the exhaust gasket.

Remove the 2 bolts securing the catalytic converter to the transmission bracket.

- Disconnect the electrical connector for the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
- Release the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) from the retaining clip.

Remove the 2 nuts securing the catalytic converter to the engine assembly bracket.

Using suitable cutting/grinding equipment remove the clamp weld at the points illustrated.
CAUTION: Do not use power tools to remove or install the clamp.

- Remove and discard the catalytic converter to turbo assembly clamp.
- Remove and discard the gasket between the catalytic converter and the turbo assembly.
- Remove the catalytic converter.
NOTE: Do not disassemble further is removed for access only.

Remove the HO2S using the special tool.
