| The engine does not crank (starter motor does not turn) |
- Battery/charging system fault
- Engine system fault
- Transmission fault
- Transmission control switch not set to Park or Neutral
- Smart key not present/recognised
- Starter relay circuit open circuit, high resistance
- Starter motor solenoid circuit open circuit, high resistance
- Starter motor circuit open circuit, high resistance
- Engine seized
|
- Refer to the relevant portion of the service information and check the battery and charging system
- Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the engine control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
- Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the transmission control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
- Set the transmission control switch to Park or Neutral and retest
- Check that the smart key is present and recognised
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the starter relay circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness or install a new starter relay as necessary
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the starter motor solenoid circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness or install a new starter motor solenoid as necessary
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the starter motor circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness or install a new starter motor as necessary
- Check that the engine turns freely
|
| The engine does not crank (starter motor does turn) |
- Starter motor incorrectly installed
- Starter motor internal failure
- Drive plate ring gear
|
- Check the installation of the starter motor
- Install a new starter motor
- Check the drive plate ring gear teeth for damage, foreign objects, etc
|
| Engine cranks too slowly |
- Battery/charging system fault
- Starter motor circuit open circuit, high resistance
- Engine oil grade incorrect
- Starter motor internal failure
|
- Refer to the relevant portion of the service information and check the battery and charging system
- Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the starter motor circuit for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness or install a new starter motor as necessary
- Check the engine oil grade
- Install a new starter motor
|
| Engine cranks too fast |
- Timing chain failure
- Low engine compression
|
- Check the integrity of the timing chain
- Refer to the relevant portion of the service information and check the engine cylinder compressions
|
| ECO (stop/start) system inoperative |
- ECO system inhibited
- ECO system fault
|
NOTE:
"ECO STOP/START FAULT" will be displayed in the instrument cluster message centre when the system is inoperative due to a fault.
- Refer to the ECO System Inhibits table for possible inhibit conditions
- ECO system inhibited due to owner error: Explain/demonstrate the ECO system operation to the owner
- ECO system inhibited due to battery condition: Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, perform the Power Supply Service Mode Diagnostic routine
- Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system, check the engine control module for related DTCs and refer to the relevant DTC index
- Automatic/ECO stop/start system inhibited due to a DTC clear performed and a drive cycle not completed: Road test the vehicle between 48-80 km/h (30-50 mph) for 2 to 3 minutes, allow the engine to idle, auto stop/start will now activate
