Engine Timing (G1674545): Check
- Tool JLR-303-1565 has been superseded by JLR-303-1600, but can still be used to complete the procedure detailed below.
- Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
- Engine shown removed for clarity.
- Only follow this procedure if base engine timing settings have been lost.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-748
Rotate the engine clockwise until the crankshaft stops against the special tool as indicated.
- CAUTION:
- Make sure that new bolts are installed.
- Only tighten the bolts finger-tight at this stage.
Renew Part: Flexplate bolts Quantity: 6 .
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1594
Torque: 40 Nm

CAUTION: Only tighten the bolt finger-tight at this stage.

CAUTION: Make sure that the special tool is correctly located.
Torque : 90 Nm

NOTE: Tighten the retaining bolts in the sequence shown.
Torque
Stage1: 50 Nm
Stage2: 70 Nm
Stage3: 112 Nm
- CAUTION:
- Install new friction washers.
- Note the orientation of the crankshaft sprocket.
NOTE: Install but do not tighten fixing at this stage.Renew Part: Crankshaft sprocket friction washer Quantity: 1 .

CAUTION: Failure to perform this step may result in damage to the engine.NOTE: Using a suitable spanner, lock the camshaft.
Remove the brake vacuum pump adapter from the camshaft.
Rotate the engine until the reluctor ring gap and camshafts are positioned as indicated.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1600
- CAUTION: Make sure new washers are installed.
Renew Part: Camshaft sprocket friction washer(s) Quantity: 1 .

CAUTION:
- Use an open-ended wrench to hold the camshafts by the hexagon to prevent the camshafts from turning.
- Make sure that these components are installed to the noted removal position.
- Only tighten the bolts finger-tight at this stage.
Install the timing chain.
Torque: 10 Nm

CAUTION: Use an open-ended wrench to hold the camshafts by the hexagon to prevent the camshafts from turning.
Torque : 72 Nm

CAUTION: Using a suitable tool, hold the oil pump gear when installing the centre bolt.
Torque : 25 Nm

CAUTION: Apply sealant WSE-M4G323-A6 in a 4-7 mm diameter on the engine front cover as shown. The component must be installed and tightened within 10 minutes of sealant application.

CAUTION: Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

M6: 10 Nm
M10: 48 Nm

CAUTION:
- Only tighten the bolt finger-tight at this stage.
- Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.
NOTE: Apply WSS-M2C913-B or WSS-M2C913-C oil on the damper sealing surface prior to installation. -
CAUTION:
- Rotate the crankshaft damper to align special tool 303-1595. Do not rotate the crankshaft .
- Make sure that the special tool is correctly located.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1595
Torque
Stage1: 100 Nm
Stage2: 90°
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1595
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1600

NOTE: Using a suitable spanner, lock the camshaft.
Install the brake vacuum pump adapter to the camshaft.
Torque : 62 Nm

NOTE: Loosen the bolt (1) remove the bolts (2).
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1594
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-748
Torque: 20 Nm
