Brake Booster: Overview

Power assistance for the braking system is provided by a vacuum operated, non-active brake booster.

The vacuum required for brake booster operation is created by an engine driven brake vacuum pump.

The GTDi 2.0L engine has a second source of vacuum in addition to the engine drive brake vacuum pump. The second source of vacuum is from the intake manifold. There is an additional check valve fitted to maintain vacuum for brake booster operation.

Rigid plastic brake vacuum piping connects the brake vacuum pump to the brake booster. Vehicles fitted with the stop/start system incorporate a brake vacuum sensor in the piping. A check valve is installed in the piping to maintain the vacuum necessary for brake booster operation.
