The exhaust front section comprises of two pipes each incorporating a catalytic converter. Each catalytic converter is joined to an inlet pipe with a flange that is attached to the exhaust manifolds on each bank. The front section also has two mass dampers which will absorb resonance from the system.
The catalytic converters are fitted with both mid-catalyst and post-catalyst HO2S (heated oxygen sensor) on each of the pipes.
The mid and post catalyst HO2S monitor the exhaust gasses leaving the engine. The ECM (engine control module) uses this information to provide accurately metered quantities of fuel to the combustion chambers to ensure the most efficient use of fuel and to minimize the exhaust emissions.
